Austin Allergies: Cedar Fever
Also called allergic rhinitis, cedar fever is an allergic reaction to pollen from juniper trees, also known as mountain cedar trees. Despite it’s name, cedar fever is not a virus or flu, even though it can feel similar to those illnesses. In Austin, cedar fever is the worst west of I-35 where there is a higher concentration of juniper trees. Because they all release their pollen around the same time, the symptoms can become very severe.
Symptoms of Cedar Fever
Sneezing, itchy eyes, blocked nasal passages, stuffy/runny nose, coughing or sore throat, partial loss of smell or taste, low/mild fever, plugged ears, and fatigue.
